CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- The jury trial for Carolina Panthers Pro Bowl defensive end Greg Hardy to appeal a judge's guilty verdict for attacking and threatening ex-girlfriend Nicole Holder has been set for Nov. 17.
Hardy's attorney, Chris Fialko, told ESPN.com on Monday after filing a waiver on Hardy's arraignment that he doesn't expect the trial will be heard until 2015.
"I believe the state will try much older cases at the November date and we will be assigned to a jury trial in 2015 once the master schedule [for next year] is set,'' Fialko said. "I do not think the district attorney will leapfrog this case over many of the older ones where the defendants and accusers have been waiting patiently for a trial.''
Should Hardy's trial go on as scheduled, it would come on the Monday of the team's bye week -- after the Panthers play the Atlanta Falcons at Bank of America Stadium.
Hardy was arrested May 13 on domestic violence charges. He was found guilty on July 15 and sentenced to 18 months of probation with a 60-day jail sentence that was suspended.
He immediately appealed the verdict, asking for a jury trial. His arraignment was set for Monday, but Fialko filed a waiver, which meant Hardy did not have to appear in court.
His plea of not guilty was entered.
Panthers general manager Dave Gettleman said before training camp began in Spartanburg, North Carolina, that the team would not discipline Hardy until after the legal process was completed.
Gettleman said the team has been in close communication with the NFL on the situation and was following the league's lead. A league spokesman said it will continue to monitor the situation.
Hardy has not spoken publicly about his legal situation other than to say he "hates" that it has been a distraction to the team.
