DAVIE, Fla. -- The Miami Dolphins took running back Knowshon Moreno off the physically unable to perform list Wednesday.
Moreno had knee surgery after minicamp and only participated in individual drills during his first practice of training camp. Although Dolphins coach Joe Philbin didn't completely rule out Moreno for Friday's preseason opener, it's unlikely he'll play against the Atlanta Falcons.
"It's a little too early to tell; I mean, this is his first practice out here," Philbin said. "So I don't know if it's a wise coaching decision for a guy that really hasn't participated to throw him in a game."
The Dolphins are bringing Moreno along gradually. He spent the first 10 days of training camp rehabbing his knee with a trainer. On Wednesday, Moreno dressed in full pads but only did position drills.
Moreno said his top priority is to be ready for the regular season.
"Today was testing it out and seeing how it feels," Moreno said of his knee. "I feel good. What I did today, I felt pretty good doing it. Now, the next couple of days I'll just progress and do more and more each day."
Moreno set career highs in 2013 with 1,038 yards and 10 touchdowns as a member of the Denver Broncos.
Miami signed Moreno to a one-year, $3 million contract this offseason to compete with incumbent starter Lamar Miller and boost the running game. However, Miller has been significantly ahead of Moreno because of a solid offseason and start to training camp.
"I cant really think about the depth chart," Moreno said. "Wherever the coaches want me to be, that's where I'll be."
