Former Detroit Lions wide receiver Titus Young pleaded no contest to one felony count of battery with serious bodily injury in a Los Angeles County courtroom.
He had been arrested on July 9, 2014, and initially faced charges of one felony battery count with serious bodily injury and four misdemeanor counts of battery on school, park or hospital property. One of the misdemeanor counts was dropped during pre-trial hearings.
Young, who will be sentenced May 5 at 11:30 a.m. ET in Department L of the Los Angeles County Superior Court, is facing up to three years in state prison, according to Los Angeles District Attorney spokeswoman Shiara Davila Morales. The misdemeanor counts are expected to be dismissed at the time of the sentencing, Davila Morales said.
When the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department arrested Young, the department released a statement explaining the situation.
The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department responded to a suspected battery complaint on July 8, 2014, as Young was involved in "a physical altercation with another male adult," according to a statement from the LASD at the time. Young was booked the next day.
At the time of the booking, Young pleaded not guilty to all charges.
The location of the incident, the 12000 block of South Wilmington Boulevard in Los Angeles, is the same location as the Los Angeles County King-Drew medical center.
Young was selected by the Lions in the second round of the 2011 NFL draft out of Boise State. He played in 27 games for Detroit with 85 catches for 1,023 yards and 10 touchdowns.
