FOXBOROUGH, Mass. -- Veteran center Ryan Wendell is the most notable inactive player for the New England Patriots in the NFL opener against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Wendell, who came off the physically unable to perform list Aug. 25 after undergoing offseason shoulder surgery, was a candidate to start in place of injured Bryan Stork. With Wendell also out, it is likely undrafted free agent David Andrews will draw that assignment.
Andrews, of Georgia, was a surprise to earn a roster spot in training camp.
In addition to Wendell, the Patriots' other inactive players are cornerback Justin Coleman, safety Tavon Wilson, running back Travaris Cadet, defensive end Rufus Johnson, defensive tackle Khyrie Thornton and defensive end Trey Flowers.
For the Steelers, quarterback Landry Jones, receiver Sammie Coates, cornerback Ross Cockrell, center/guard Chris Hubbard, tight end Jesse James, defensive end L.T. Walton and defensive end Caushaud Lyons are inactive.
