St. Louis Rams safety Mark Barron is not expected to receive a fine from the NFL for his low hit that injured Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger last Sunday, according to a league source.
Barron was blitzing and on the ground when he made contact with Roethlisberger, causing the quarterback to suffer a sprained left MCL and a significant bone bruise that will sideline him for four to six weeks.
There was no penalty called on the play.
On Tuesday, Roethlisberger said he didn't think Barron's hit was dirty.
"I don't think he was trying to take me out," he said. "According to rules, it was a low hit, so maybe it should have been flagged. But I don't think he was trying to do anything to intentionally hurt me."
On Sunday, Barron said he tripped over someone's feet en route to Roethlisberger.
"I stumbled a bit, but on my way down, I caught a piece of his leg," Barron explained. "I'm not sure exactly what area it was but that's what happened."
