DAVIE, Fla. -- The Miami Dolphins released backup defensive tackle Leon Orr one day after he was arrested in Collier County, Florida, and charged with possession of marijuana and a controlled substance.
The Naples Daily News first reported news of the Tuesday arrest, adding that Orr posted $7,000 bond.
Coach Adam Gase told reporters that the Dolphins found out about the arrest during Wednesday's practice and immediately waived Orr.
"We're in the middle of the season. We have priorities and this is the No. 1 priority. If guys have other priorities, they can go about their business somewhere else," Gase said.
"For us, the one thing that we do talk about quite a bit is being invested to each other. That's what it's really about. There's a lot of people putting in a lot of work -- players, coaches and staff members. Everybody is counting on everybody to do the right thing. That's really the only way you have a chance to be successful. If we have people pulling in different directions and this isn't their top priority, we'd rather not be around those people."
Orr played five games for Miami this season and recorded one tackle.
The Dolphins are 7-4 and in the thick of the playoff race.
