JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The Jacksonville Jaguars declined to pick up the fifth-year option on defensive tackle Taven Bryan, a league source told ESPN's Jeremy Fowler.
It's not a surprise because Bryant has been a disappointment since the Jaguars drafted him 29th overall in 2018. He has 71 tackles (11 for loss), 3.5 sacks, and one pass breakup at the line of scrimmage in three seasons with the Jaguars.
Bryant will make $1,864,767 in the final year of his rookie contract. He carries a $3.231 million salary cap hit and cutting him after June 1 would save the Jaguars only $1.16 million.
Bryant has played in every game since he was drafted but started only 17. He started the first seven games last season before losing that job to undrafted rookie Doug Costin, who finished the season with 32 tackles (three for loss) and recovered one fumble.
