PHILADELPHIA -- Eagles general manager Howie Roseman said he does not agree with the idea that this is a make-or-break season for Jalen Hurts to remain the team's starting quarterback.
"I think the bottom line for us ... is winning football games and all the guy does is win football games," Roseman said during an appearance on 94 WIP on Wednesday. "That includes our head coach [Nick Sirianni] as well.
"For me, the barometer is winning football games. In terms of what Jalen does, he's another guy with a tremendous track record. All he does is go out and play good football. Really excited to have him as our quarterback, excited about this season and what we have going forward, and I know there are a lot of fanbases out there that would love the results we've had with him as our starting quarterback."
Hurts has a 57-25 record as the starting quarterback during the regular season since coming into the league in 2020. He has guided the Eagles to a pair of Super Bowl appearances, including a championship win over the Kansas City Chiefs during the 2024 season in which Hurts earned Super Bowl MVP honors.
This passing offense has been a point of scrutiny in recent seasons, however, including last season when the Eagles finished 23rd in passing yards (194.3) and 19th in Total QBR (52.9). The highest-salaried offense in the NFL underperformed as a whole, ranking first in three-and-outs and 19th in points per game (22.3).
There was some internal frustrations directed at Hurts, with sources believing he had a hand in the offense becoming calcified in part because he pushed back on changes that would diversify the scheme.
Philadelphia has since overhauled its system, led by offensive coordinator Sean Mannion, who has implemented a West Coast-style offense influenced by Sean McVay, Matt LaFleur and Kyle Shanahan.
One team source said Hurts was "as open as he's ever been" to changes this offseason. Coaches and teammates have spoken to that openness, including left tackle Jordan Mailata, who said Hurts is "all-in on this system."
Hurts signed a five-year, $255 million extension in April 2023 that runs through the 2028 season, though this is the last season in which his salary is fully guaranteed.
