INDIANAPOLIS -- Colts wide receiver Alec Pierce is expected to suit up for Sunday's season opener against the Baltimore Ravens just more than two weeks after returning from a five-month absence, coach Shane Steichen said Monday.
Pierce returned to practice on Aug. 27 after undergoing ankle surgery to address a lingering condition in March. The Colts had suggested Pierce would likely return for the start of training camp, but his recovery proved longer and kept him out all preseason.
Monday, however, after Pierce's fifth practice, Steichen appeared to have seen enough.
"He should be good to go," Steichen said. "We'll get him some reps and practice this week, just like he took reps last week. He's feeling really good."
Pierce and quarterback Daniel Jones have been working in additional throws together to reacclimate to each other after Pierce's long absence. They had a unique connection in 2025, when Pierce led the NFL in yards per catch (21.3) for the second straight season. The Colts expect that synergy to continue.
"Both those guys are veterans that kind of know each other really well," Steichen said. "So, we're looking forward to that."
