TEMPE, Ariz. -- It might just be May but if the defensive depth during during organized team activities are a preview of what's to come during the regular season, versatility will be the word of the season for the Cardinals.
New defensive coordinator James Bettcher will have his pick of lineups up front, at linebacker and in the secondary.
Arizona's starting defensive line could look like Calais Campbell, Corey Peters and Frostee Rucker with Matt Shaughnessy and Cory Redding rotating in.
The linebackers, however, will give Bettcher another set of options. Without Daryl Washington in the mix, the inside linebackers could include Sean Weatherspoon, Kevin Minter with Darryl Sharpton, Kenny Demens and Glenn Carson as reserves.
At outside linebacker, the Cardinals could use any combination of Alex Okafor, Lorenzo Alexander and LaMarr Woodley. Kareem Martin was getting reps on the second field as he continues to transition to outside linebacker from defensive end.
The secondary will likely be rather steady with Patrick Peterson and Jerraud Powers at corners with a combination of Rashad Johnson, Tony Jefferson and Tyrann Mathieu rotating in at safety. In nickel, Powers and Peterson will remain at corner with Jefferson and Johnson playing alongside Mathieu and Deone Bucannon, who again will line up at nickel linebacker.
