TEMPE, Ariz. – Heading into its 10th season, University of Phoenix Stadium has seen its share of memorable performances by a variety of Arizona Cardinals.
My goal was to find the 10 best individual plays or games by a single player. It wasn’t an easy task. My initial list had 15 games and plays on it and I eliminated a few notable performances. A lot of familiar Cards dot the list, but some older, forgotten names made the cut.
I’ll be rolling out the top 10 every day until the Cardinals report for this year’s training camp, it’s third at University of Phoenix Stadium, on July 31.
And, finally, at No. 1…
No. 1: Jay Feely scores 25 points by himself against the Broncos
Date: Dec. 12, 2010
Game: Week 14 vs. Denver
Why it’s ranked: In nine seasons, there might not have been a better individual performance at University of Phoenix Stadium than Feely scoring 25 points by himself against Denver in Week 15 of 2010. He kicked five field goals, kicked four extra points and scored a touchdown. On that Sunday, Feely set the record for most points by a Cardinal in University of Phoenix Stadium, but he fell one point short of tying the NFL record for most points in a game by a kicker in NFL history. Feely’s 25 points sit as the 19th-most by an individual in a game in league annals, according to Pro Football Reference. Feely’s touchdown came on a fake field goal from the 5 in the second quarter. At one point early in the fourth quarter, CBS, which was broadcasting the game, put up a graphic that read Jay Feely 22, Denver 3. When you get your own graphic, it’s been a historic day.
