GLENDALE, Ariz. -- New Arizona Cardinals running back Chris Johnson will not suit up in his first preseason game with the team.
Johnson is one of seven Cardinals who won't not play Saturday night against the San Diego Chargers at University of Phoenix Stadium. No reason was given for why Johnson won't take the field.
Earlier this week, Cardinals coach Bruce Arians said Johnson was going to get five or six carries to "get him acclimated to what we're doing." Arians was concerned about playing Johnson too much because the veteran back had yet to digest all of Arizona's blitz pickups and Arians didn't want to put a quarterback in danger of a big hit.
Also not playing for the Cardinals will be wide receiver Michael Floyd, cornerback Jonte Green, linebacker Shaq Riddick, linebacker Sean Weatherspoon, tackle Rob Crisp and guard Mike Iupati.
