GLENDALE, Ariz. -- Arizona Cardinals wide receiver John Brown will miss an undetermined amount of training camp after he was admitted to the NFL’s concussion protocol because he hit his head on the ground during Sunday’s practice, coach Bruce Arians said.
Brown’s injury happened late in the Cardinals’ first padded practice of training camp at University of Phoenix Stadium. The third-year receiver is coming off his first 1,000-yard season.
Arians also said cornerback Mike Jenkins, whom the Cardinals signed on July 19, was scheduled to have surgery on a broken bone in his right hand on Monday. Arians said Jenkins would need two to three weeks before he could play with a cast.
New guard Evan Mathis left the field before Sunday’s practice was over because of a sore ankle. He had surgery to repair both ankles this offseason.
Arians said Mathis, Chris Johnson and Drew Stanton all received veteran days off on Monday.
Arians said the previously injured Cardinals who have short-term ailments -- tight end Jermaine Gresham (hamstring) and defensive tackle Red Bryant (Achilles) -- still are out.
