OWINGS MILLS, Md. -- The Baltimore Ravens added some much-needed depth at safety Tuesday, when Terrence Brooks came off the physically-unable-to-perform list.
Brooks, a third-round pick in 2014, underwent surgery to repair multiple torn knee ligaments in December. He looked ahead of schedule in spring workouts, but the Ravens waited until the final day of training camp to put him on the field this summer. Brooks didn't show any hesitancy in making cuts in individual drills Tuesday.
By activating Brooks, the Ravens are confident he'll be ready to play in Week 1. His return is even more significant considering the Ravens lost Matt Elam to a potential season-ending biceps injury in training camp. That weakened the depth behind starters Will Hill and Kendrick Lewis.
Brooks joins Anthony Levine, Brynden Trawick and Nick Perry as the Ravens' backup safeties.
In other injury news, wide receiver Breshad Perriman (knee) missed his 13th straight practice. The first-round pick injured his knee on the first day of camp (July 30).
Others not present at the start of practice: G Kelechi Osemele (foot), CB Lardarius Webb (hamstring), TE Maxx Williams (undisclosed), G John Urschel (concussion), OT Jah Reid (undisclosed), LB Steven Means (groin) and OT Darryl Baldwin (undisclosed).
Wide receiver Michael Campanaro, cornerback Asa Jackson (knee) and guard Robert Myers (concussion) are back practicing.
