If another team wants Terrance West, it will take a third-round pick to get the Baltimore Ravens' leading rusher.
West received a low/original-round tender from the Ravens as a restricted free agent, a league source confirmed Tuesday night. It will pay him $1.797 million -- nearly triple his $600,000 base salary from last season -- and essentially secures his return to Baltimore. But if the Ravens don't match an offer sheet from another team, they would get a third-round pick (West was selected in that round in 2014) as compensation.
This comes after West's best season in the NFL. The Baltimore native set career highs in rushing yards (774), yards per carry (4.0) and touchdowns (six total). He is expected to compete against Kenneth Dixon and perhaps a rookie draft pick for Baltimore's starting job in 2017.
Wide receiver Michael Campanaro also was given an original-round tender, according to a league source. The Ravens would get a seventh-round pick as compensation for Campanaro, who ended the season as the Ravens' primary returner. Backup offensive linemen Ryan Jensen (sixth round) and James Hurst (no compensation) received the low tender, according to The Baltimore Sun, and reserve safety Marqueston Huff (fourth-round compensation) was given the original-round tender, according to the NFL Network.
All this means at least $8.8 million of cap space will be accounted for by Baltimore's restricted free agents, which takes a chunk out of the team's available $18 million in cap space.
It is unknown whether the Ravens' other restricted free agent -- reserve cornerback Jumal Rolle -- was tendered.
