IRVING, Texas -- The Dallas Cowboys were awarded four compensatory picks for the upcoming NFL draft, bringing their total to nine selections in April.
For losing seven free agents last year and signing just three last year, the Cowboys received a fourth round (No. 135 overall) and three sixth-round picks (Nos. 212, 216, 217). Compensatory picks cannot be traded, however, that rule changes in 2017.
The Cowboys lost Bruce Carter, Justin Durant, Dwayne Harris, Henry Melton, DeMarco Murray, Jermey Parnell and George Selvie as unrestricted free agents and signed Greg Hardy, Andrew Gachkar and Darren McFadden.
The Cowboys hold their own picks in Rounds 1-4 and hold a sixth-round pick from the Oakland Raiders as a result of their trade last season for wide receiver Brice Butler. They traded away their own sixth rounder in last year's draft to take tight end Geoff Swaim in the seventh round. They do not have a seventh round pick this year as a result of their trade with the Seattle Seahawks for running back Christine Michael.
