ALLEN PARK, Mich. -- Josh Wilson is trying to stay involved.
The Detroit Lions cornerback is on injured reserve, yet he still shows up every day, goes to treatment for his injured right knee, then sits in meetings and watches practice. He's walking pretty well, said he hasn't had surgery and isn't sure if he'll need it.
But since he's done for the year, he's trying to help along with cornerback Rashean Mathis, who is also on injured reserve.
"It's our chance to help the young guys," Wilson said. "And help them prepare for the game."
Wilson said he wasn't sure if it felt like he was coaching because he's never been a coach before. He said he's never been in this position before and it is the first time since the 2010 season he has missed a game.
He said he hasn't been running or jogging yet, "just rehab," and that he's listening to his body and taking his time coming back since he knows he won't be on the field again in 2015.
"It's weird," Wilson said.
Wilson was Detroit's starting nickel corner before his injury. He had 31 tackles, a fumble recovery and a half-sack in eight games this season.
