GREEN BAY, Wis. – Add an elbow injury to the list of Clay Matthews' ailments. It will keep the Green Bay Packers linebacker out of practice on Wednesday, marking the sixth time in 13 training-camp practices this summer that he has been sidelined.
Matthews missed five practices plus the preseason opener last Thursday at New England because of a sore knee. Matthews returned from his knee injury for the two practices immediately before to the Patriots game even though he didn't play.
McCarthy did not get into specifics about Matthews' elbow or whether it would keep him out of a second preseason game, Sunday at Pittsburgh. In fact, he called it an "issue" and not an injury, but that could be just semantics.
For Matthews, it's another missed opportunity to get added snaps at inside linebacker, a position he added to his list of duties midway through last season. This is the first full offseason he's had to work at that spot. He has split his practice time between inside and outside linebacker.
Left tackle David Bakhtiari (knee) also won't practice Wednesday or the rest of the week, and McCarthy said "he'll be a stretch to play in Pittsburgh."
