GREEN BAY, Wis. -- Aaron Rodgers wasn't on the list of players who were ruled out of Saturday's preseason game against the Philadelphia Eagles, but that doesn't mean the Green Bay Packers starting quarterback will play.
UPDATE: Rodgers indeed will not play. Coach Mike McCarthy said on the Packers' pregame radio broadcast that rookie fifth-round pick Brett Hundley will start and be followed by Matt Blanchard. Rodgers' top backup, Scott Tolzien, has been cleared from the concussion he sustained last Sunday against the Steelers but will play only in an emergency situation.
The list of pregame scratches included only players held out because of injury.
Rodgers is healthy but given that three of his five offensive linemen are not, McCarthy apparently decided not to play him. Left tackle David Bakhtiari (knee) plus guards T.J. Lang (concussion) and Josh Sitton (ankle) were ruled out.
Rodgers doesn't usually play in the preseason finale, meaning he probably won't get any more game reps before the regular-season opener at Chicago on Sept. 13.
For the first time this preseason, the Packers have all of their preferred defensive starters and key backups available, including linebacker Clay Matthews (knee, elbow), linebacker Nick Perry (groin) and defensive tackle Mike Daniels (ankle). None of the three played in the first two preseason games games.
Here's the full list of players who were ruled out:
WR Javess Blue (shoulder)
DB Kyle Sebetic (ankle)
RB Alonzo Harris (hand)
T David Bakhtiari (knee)
G T.J. Lang (concussion)
G Josh Sitton (ankle)
WR Jared Abbrederis (concussion)
WR Jordy Nelson (knee)
DE Datone Jones (ankle)
