Here's a player-by-player look at the Green Bay Packers' 53-man roster:
QUARTERBACKS (3)
Aaron Rodgers: The reigning NFL MVP played just two quarters this preseason and none after the Aug. 23 game at Pittsburgh. At age 31, he’s beginning his eighth season as the starter.
Scott Tolzien: Hasn’t played in the regular season since 2013 and is in his first year as Rodgers’ top backup.
Brett Hundley: Fifth-round pick was one of the most impressive rookies. He led the NFL in preseason passer rating (129.7).
RUNNING BACKS (5)
Eddie Lacy: Rushed for 1,100-plus yards in each of his first two NFL seasons and should be even more involved in the passing game this year.
James Starks: The starter in Super Bowl XLV has excelled in a back-up role to Lacy the past two seasons.
Alonzo Harris: The undrafted rookie from Louisiana-Lafayette was perhaps the biggest surprise to make the team, especially considering he played with a broken hand.
John Kuhn: The veteran fullback and fan favorite returns for a 10th NFL season.
Aaron Ripkowski: The rookie sixth-round pick forced the Packers to keep a second fullback because of his prowess on special teams.
RECEIVERS (5)
Randall Cobb: Signed a four-year, $40 million contract in March and now will likely get the most attention from defenses with Jordy Nelson lost for the season.
Davante Adams: Coach Mike McCarthy called the second-year pro the MVP of the offseason this year.
Ty Montgomery: Rookie third-round pick also may be the team's primary kickoff returner.
Jeff Janis: Caught three touchdown passes this preseason, giving him five total for his career in games that don't count (and none in games that do).
Myles White: Survived Saturday's cut to 53 for the first time in three tries but could lose the spot when James Jones' signing becomes official.
TIGHT ENDS (3)
Richard Rodgers: The second-year pro offers Aaron Rodgers a big target (6-foot-4) that might help improve their red-zone efficiency.
Andrew Quarless: Played more snaps than Richard Rodgers last season but likely will move into the No. 2 role.
Kennard Backman: Rookie sixth-round pick barely beat out Mitchell Henry and Justin Perillo for the No. 3 spot.
OFFENSIVE LINE (9)
David Bakhtiari: Has started every game at left tackle the past two seasons but was bothered by a knee injury this summer.
Bryan Bulaga: Signed a five-year, $33.75 million contract in March that ensured all five starting offensive linemen from last year returned.
Corey Linsley: Took over as the starting center in the final week of preseason last year as a rookie after JC Tretter sustained a knee injury and never gave the job back.
T.J. Lang: Started 63 games the past four years combined, the most by any Packers player on the offensive side of the ball.
Josh Sitton: Named to the Pro Bowl and the AP All-Pro second team last year.
Don Barclay: Returns after missing last season because of a torn ACL but struggled early this preseason.
Lane Taylor: Backup guard made the roster for the third straight year.
JC Tretter: Did not play as a rookie in 2013 because of a broken ankle and started last season on the temporary IR list because of a knee injury.
Josh Walker: Spent the first two weeks of last season on the Colts' practice squad and then spent the remainder of the year on the Packers' practice squad.
DEFENSIVE LINE (5)
Mike Daniels: Combined for 13.5 sacks (including playoffs) the past two seasons and likely will be the one of the Packers' next players to receive a contract extension.
B.J. Raji: Has not recorded a sack since Nov. 24, 2011, but missed all of last season because of a torn biceps tendon.
Mike Pennel: With Datone Jones and Letroy Guion suspended, the second-year pro will likely start along with Daniels and Raji.
Josh Boyd: Has not recorded a sack in 27 career games (including playoffs).
Bruce Gaston: Street free-agent pickup late last season will have to prove he's worth keeping when Jones and Guion return in Weeks 2 and 4, respectively.
LINEBACKERS (9)
Sam Barrington: Took over as a starter at inside linebacker midway through last season and will make the defensive calls this year.
Clay Matthews: Five-time Pro Bowler will spit time between inside and outside linebacker.
Julius Peppers: The oldest player on the roster at age 35 is still looking for his first Super Bowl ring.
Mike Neal: Quietly has put together three solid seasons (with 14.5 sacks combined, including playoffs) after playing in just nine games in his first two seasons because of injuries.
Nick Perry: Former first-round pick is in the final year of his rookie contract and has yet to play a full season.
Nate Palmer: The top backup at inside linebacker played with a club cast on his broken hand the entire preseason.
Andy Mulumba: Made a successful return after a torn ACL ended his 2014 season after only two games.
Jayrone Elliott: Former undrafted rookie made the team for the second straight year coming out of camp and is expected to be one of the core special-teams players.
Jake Ryan: Rookie fourth-round pick beat out a fourth-rounder from last year, Carl Bradford, for a spot.
CORNERBACKS (6)
Casey Hayward: Replaces Tramon Williams as the starting left cornerback and needs a big season because he's in the final year of his rookie contract.
Sam Shields: Must play better than he did last year after he signed a four-year, $39 million deal.
Damarious Randall: Rookie first-round pick might be the most athletic corner on the roster and should play in the dime package.
Quinten Rollins: Rookie second-round pick can play either outside or in the slot.
LaDarius Gunter: Undrafted rookie was the only player to pick off Aaron Rodgers more than once in training camp.
Demetri Goodson: Second-year pro might be the new Jarrett Bush of the special teams.
Safeties (5)
Morgan Burnett: Picked off six passes from 2010-2012 but has only one interception since then.
Ha Ha Clinton-Dix: The 2014 first-round pick played perhaps his best game in the NFC Championship with a pair of interceptions.
Micah Hyde: Can play safety or cornerback and should be the fifth defensive back in the nickel package. Also has three punt returns for touchdowns in the past two seasons.
Chris Banjo: Back on the roster to start the season for the second time in three years after getting cut last year at the end of the preseason.
Sean Richardson: The Packers matched the Raiders' one-year, $2.55 million restricted free agent offer sheet to retain him in large part for special teams.
SPECIALISTS (3)
Mason Crosby: Since his slump of 2012, he has made 69-of-79 field goals (87.3 percent), including playoffs.
Tim Masthay: Struggled this preseason coming off a career-low 37.0-yard net punting average last season and could be on thin ice as he starts his sixth season.
Brett Goode: The long-snapper hasn't missed a game since he joined the Packers in 2008.
