GREEN BAY, Wis. -- Less than a month after he was arrested outside a bar in Cedar Falls, Iowa, cornerback Makinton Dorleant was released by the Green Bay Packers.
ESPN’s Field Yates reported Tuesday that Dorleant was released with the failed physical designation.
The former undrafted free agent from Northern Iowa finished his rookie season last year on injured reserve because of a knee injury after playing in just four games. Dorleant underwent surgery on his knee and was expected to miss nine months, according to a source.
Dorleant and Chicago Bears cornerback Deiondre Hall were arrested on March 25. Dorleant was cited for interference and Hall for disorderly conduct, public intoxication and interference.
The Packers put Dorleant on injured reserve for the first 11 games of the season because of a hamstring injury he suffered during training camp, but opted to use their lone designated-to-return status on him when they activated him to the roster on Dec. 3.
Dorleant’s release only furthers the Packers’ need for cornerbacks. They ranked 31st in the NFL in passing yards allowed last season and made just one offseason addition to the secondary when they brought back cornerback Davon House after he spent two seasons with the Jacksonville Jaguars.
