This could have been a weekly segment on the blog this year as it seems J.J. Watt is constantly reaching new milestones.
Part of his success is that he figures out where on the line he can do the most damage. We saw in the mic'd up segment he did with NFL Films two weeks ago when he spotted Titans lineman Will Svitek as a favorable matchup, and he manhandled him him all game. Last weekend, against the Jaguars, Watt spent a lot of time against right tackle Sam Young, a reserve player.
I asked Watt this week how much freedom he has to decide when he's going to park himself in a particular spot.
"Some of it's game plan stuff; some of it's certain packages," Watt said. "Some of it's based on feel and as the game goes on, it gets adjusted and things get moved around. You never know. Everybody always says you try and make it so the other team can’t game plan you because they don’t know where you’re coming from. I mean, half the time I have no clue where I’m coming from, so it makes it pretty tough for the other people, I think, and that’s the goal."
Watt has had a lot of success against the Colts, including the last time the two teams played when he had two sacks, three batted passes, seven tackles and a fumble recovery returned for a touchdown that nearly blew the roof off NRG Stadium (again).
As for the question posed in this headline: What milestone can Watt reach this weekend?
Watt has now had two games in a row with at least two sacks. If he does it again this weekend, it will be the first time in his career that he's had three games in a row with at least two sacks.
Broncos linebacker Von Miller is the only player this season who has had at least two sacks in three consecutive games.
