INDIANAPOLIS -- The release of linebacker Shaun Phillips by the Indianapolis Colts on Monday shouldn't be surprising.
The Colts signed Phillips, who was released by the Tennessee Titans, in an attempt to improve their pass rush.
Phillips wasn’t the answer, which is why he was released. The veteran was scheduled to make $2.55 million during the 2015 season.
Phillips played in five regular-season games and all three playoff games, totaling five tackles, but no sacks despite playing primarily on passing downs.
Releasing Phillips came less than a week after the Colts cut ties with starting safety LaRon Landry. They also released linebacker Andrew Jackson and offensive lineman Xavier Nixon last week.
The Colts will address finding a pass-rusher and a starting safety once free agency begins March 10.
