INDIANAPOLIS -- It's uncertain when Nate Irving will be able to take part in offseason workouts because of a knee injury suffered last season, but when he does, the Indianapolis Colts will have improved depth at inside linebacker.
The Colts signed the former Denver Broncos linebacker on Friday. The Colts need more depth at inside linebacker behind starters D'Qwell Jackson and Jerrell Freeman, who was tendered a qualifying offer earlier this month, because Andrew Jackson was released last month and Josh McNary is facing rape charges and is on the commissioner’s exempt list.
Irving, a third-round pick by the Broncos in 2011, has 104 tackles and 2.0 sacks in his four-year career. He missed the final eight games last season because of a sprained MCL. He was Denver’s starting middle linebacker before getting injured.
