ANDERSON, Ind. -- The Indianapolis Colts waived Ben Heenan after reaching an injury settlement with the guard.
The Colts waived Heenan after he suffered a torn meniscus in his right knee during Wednesday’s practice. Coach Chuck Pagano said about 90 minutes before the Colts announced Heenan's release that he was probably going to be out 4-6 weeks.
The Colts signed Heenan back in February after he spent the past three seasons playing for the Saskatchewan Roughriders of the Canadian Football League.
Heenan’s playing time this season likely was going to be limited this season. Lance Louis, Hugh Thornton, Todd Herremans, Joe Reitz and possibly Donald Thomas were ahead of him on the depth chart.
The Colts signed undrafted free agent guard Kitt O’Brien to take Heenan's roster spot.
Pagano also added that running back Vick Ballard remains day-to-day with a hamstring injury suffered in practice on Tuesday. Ballard has missed all but one game of the past two seasons with a torn ACL and torn Achilles.
