INDIANAPOLIS -- Indianapolis Colts second-year nose tackle Zach Kerr didn't wait for EA Sports' popular game "Madden NFL 16" to be released on Tuesday.
He found a way to get an advance copy so that he could get a jump on some of his teammates.
"There's serious trash talking going on when we play," Kerr said. "I let everybody know I'm ready whenever they want to get beat."
One of the first things the players did when they got the game was see where they were rated. Kerr was happy having a 70 rating because he was an undrafted free agent who played in 12 games last season.
"You're never really happy with your own ratings," cornerback Darius Butler said. "So I go in there and adjust them a little bit to my liking. Every year I'm a Pro Bowl cornerback. Usually I leave myself in there at nickel because of the defense I run. I make more plays in there."
Kerr, Butler, defensive linemen Montori Hughes and Josh Chapman, linebacker Jonathan Newsome and cornerback Greg Toler are some of the players who have played the game for years.
Butler takes playing serious; he plans and scouts like he's an actual coach.
"I have to do that depending on who I'm playing against," Butler said. "I look to see if they're more run oriented, pass oriented or have a balanced offense."
The Colts' 87 overall rating is first in the AFC South and fifth overall in the NFL behind New England (91), Seattle (91), Green Bay (90) and Denver (89).
