INDIANAPOLIS -- The conversation between Ahmad Bradshaw and Frank Gore started back in March shortly after Gore signed with the Indianapolis Colts.
The two Miami workout partners had a vision of teaming up together in the backfield to give the Colts a one-two punch.
There was one problem, though. Bradshaw was unsigned while he continued to work his way back from a broken leg suffered against the New England Patriots in Week 11 last season.
Bradshaw is healthy and signed with the Colts.
“Man, I can’t wait,” Bradshaw said Thursday. “Him and I can work well together.”
One of the only questions remaining is when will Bradshaw take his first handoff of the season for the Colts. Offensive coordinator Pep Hamiton said they’re waiting for coach Chuck Pagano to give Bradshaw the green light to play in a game. If Bradshaw doesn't play Sunday against the Patriots, then it’ll likely be Oct. 25 against the New Orleans Saints at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis.
“I know all the plays,” Bradshaw said. “I think they want to make sure my legs are up under me. It’s their decision. I’ll be ready when they call my name.”
Bradshaw will move ahead of rookie Josh Robinson to back up Gore. Bradshaw had 611 rushing yards, 342 receiving yards and a total of 10 touchdowns in his two seasons with the Colts.
“He’s tough, downhill runner who can create his own yards, and more importantly, he can play without the ball,” Hamilton said.
Injury problems continue to plague Bradshaw. A neck injury ended his 2013 season and he broke his leg when he landed on it wrong against the Patriots last season.
Don’t expect Bradshaw to change how he plays because of his history of injury problems.
“I’ve gotten injured the past couple of years, just a thing with me I guess,” Bradshaw said. “I play the game the way I play it. I won't stop now."
