INDIANAPOLIS -- The Indianapolis Colts have ruled out starting safety Mike Adams (hamstring) for Sunday’s game against the New Orleans, coach Chuck Pagano announced on Friday. Rookie safety Clayton Geathers (knee) is also doubtful.
That means the Colts could be without two of their top three safeties when they face the third-best passing team in the NFL on Sunday. And oh yeah, the Colts are 28th in the league in giving up passing yards.
That’s not a good combination for Indianapolis.
"Trust and count on our guys no matter who it is that we put in there," Pagano said. "There’s going to be injuries. We happen to be playing another great, great quarterback (Drew Brees). It poses a huge challenge for anybody, let alone for guys who are going to be stepping into the lineup and taking on bigger roles. Our guys will rise up. They’re going to make some plays. We’re going to make some plays. Take one play at a time and go from there."
Colt Anderson (yes, the quarterback on the botched fake punt against New England) will start with Dwight Lowery at safety. Winston Guy and Dewey McDonald, who the Colts brought up from the practice squad this week, will be the backup safeties. Anderson stepped into the lineup in the second half against the Patriots after Adams, who has four interceptions this season, and Geathers left the game with their injuries.
"Confidence is all about paying time and anytime you get on get on the field, your confidence is going to build,” Anderson said. More you play, the more confident you’re going to become."
