INDIANAPOLIS -- Indianapolis Colts starting center Khaled Holmes has been ruled out for Monday's game at the Carolina Panthers because of a neck injury. He suffered the injury in the first half of the Colts' Week 7 loss to the New Orleans Saints.
Second-year player Jonotthan Harrison will start against the Panthers.
"Coach [Chuck Pagano] always says prepare as if you’re a starter, you never know when your number’s going to be called," Harrison said Saturday. "They always emphasize they don’t want a huge drop-off when we go from a starting position to a backup position."
You may recall Harrison as being a part of the revolving door at center for the Colts last season. He mysteriously replaced A.Q. Shipley in the starting lineup in Week 5. Harrison went on to start 10 games before losing the job to Holmes in Week 16.
"Last year really helped me grow as a man and as a player," Harrison said. "The NFL is a lot different than playing college football. Getting that taste last year, that experience, really helped me zero in on what I need to work on."
Linebacker Nate Irving (knee) has also been ruled out for Monday's game and safety Winston Guy (shoulder) is doubtful.
