INDIANAPOLIS -- The Indianapolis Colts brought running back Daniel "Boom" Herron back to the team just in time.
Herron, who the Colts claimed off waivers from Buffalo last week, will get the first shot at being the Colts' No. 2 running back now that Ahmad Bradshaw has been placed on injured reserve because of a wrist injury. The Colts also re-signed running back Zurlon Tipton on Monday.
"It'll have to be by committee," coach Chuck Pagano said. "Somebody is going to have to emerge (as the third-down back). Boom will be the one of the guys, obviously. He'll fill in as the No. 2 guy. Bring Tipton back and he'll be the third back and special teamer. Things like that."
This is the third straight season that Bradshaw's season has ended because of injury. His 2013 season ended when he injured his neck in Week 3. He broke his leg against New England in Week 11 in 2014.
"It's devastating you feel awful for the kid," Pagano said. "He's a warrior. He lays it all on the line week in and week out. He gives you everything he has. He's been through a ton.
"Very, very productive before he got injured a year ago. He was on his way to doing the same thing for us this year. (He) gets this injury. Again you hate to lose anybody to injury, especially season ending one, but he's going to be missed."
