INDIANAPOLIS - Colts defensive tackle Art Jones has accepted a $2 million pay cut for the 2016 season.
Jones' base salary will go from $4.5 million to $2.5 million next season, according to ESPN NFL Insider Field Yates. The defensive lineman can get the $2 million back through roster bonuses and incentives, according to Yates.
Jones was the Colts' marquee free agent in 2014, but injuries -- a common theme with many of the projected starters Indianapolis has signed in the recent years -- have consistently slowed him. He's only played nine games in his two seasons with the Colts. Jones, who signed a five-year, $33 million contract in 2014, suffered a season-ending ankle injury in the third preseason game last season.
If healthy, Jones will join a defensive line that features Kendall Langford, David Parry, Kelcy Quarles, Earl Okine, T.Y. McGill and Henry Anderson, who is coming off major knee surgery. It's a group that has a lot of potential under new defensive coordinator Ted Monachino.
