Here’s some draft information on the San Diego Chargers provided by the ESPN Stats & Information, along with the NFL.
The top draft needs for the Chargers include running back, defensive line, outside linebacker, offensive line and receiver.
A running back has not been selected in the first round since Trent Richardson, Doug Martin and David Wilson were picked in the opening round of the 2012 draft.
Between 1967 and 2012 at least one running back was taken in the first round each year. Only five running backs combined have been taken in the top 10 in the last nine drafts.
The Chargers are one of seven teams (Rams, Dolphins, Lions, Bears, Bills and Jets are the others) tied for the least amount of picks in this year’s draft with six (Nos. 17, 48, 83, 117, 153, 192).
Three of San Diego's last four first-round picks have been defensive players (Jason Verrett in 2014, Melvin Ingram in 2012 and Corey Liuget in 2011).
The Chargers have drafted two defensive tackles in the first round in the last 35 years (Liuget in 2001, Luis Castillo in 2005). Each started at least 13 games in his rookie season.
San Diego has drafted six front-seven players in the first two rounds since 2011, two more than any other team in the NFL.
Only one of San Diego’s last eight first-round selections (since 2007) has gone to a Pro Bowl (RB Ryan Mathews, 2010 first-round pick).
The last five picks at No. 17 overall since 2010: linebacker C.J. Mosley (Ravens, 2014), outside linebacker Jarvis Jones (Steelers, 2013), cornerback Dre Kirkpatrick (Bengals, 2012), offensive tackle Nate Solder (Patriots, 2011), offensive guard Mike Iupati (49ers, 2010).
