Good morning.
Tom Krasovic of U-T San Diego examines the running back prospects in this year's draft that could make sense for the San Diego Chargers.
Krasovic lists Melvin Gordon, Tevin Coleman, T.J. Yeldon and Jay Ajayi as possible fits for San Diego. However, he believes Todd Gurley is the top choice for the Chargers.
Krasovic: "Unlike Marshawn Lynch, Gurley doesn't run with a wide base consistently, so he's less fluid at diagonal cuts and change of pace moves than the Seahawks star. He's also more apt to take flush hits. He's more like Steven Jackson, the former Ram, though perhaps more explosive. He's a quick-footed violent runner who can elude in the backfield and outrun defensive backs. He punished defenders, such as an Auburn safety he knocked three yards backward. Also, had kick returns of over 100 yards. Will he hold up? Had reconstructive knee surgery Nov. 25. Telesco said it often takes two years to regain peak form."
Dr. David Chao writing for the National Football Post gives Gurley a yellow light for his medical issue. With Gurley still rehabbing from a severe knee injury, Chao writes there's no guarantee he will be fully healthy for the start of the regular season and caution is needed.
Jenny Ventras of Sports Illustrated writes about Gurley's road to recovery after suffering an ACL tear in his knee last year, and why he's rising up the draft board.
In the Players Tribune, former Chargers Shawne Merriman, LaDainian Tomlinson, Dan Fouts and Nick Hardwick write about what the team means to the people of San Diego.
Brent Schrotenboer of USA Today writes that San Diego is of the nine most populous cities in the U.S., only San Diego never has won a championship in the NFL, NBA, NHL or Major League Baseball. Losing the Chargers to Los Angeles would deepen San Diego's sad sports history, Schrotenboer writes.
Scott Lewis of the Voice of San Diego believes that fight is over and the Chargers are headed to Los Angeles.
Ricky Henne of Chargers.com highlights San Diego's success bringing in undrafted rookie free agents such as Antonio Gates and Branden Oliver.
Dan Sileo of The Mighty 1090 AM radio talks with U-T San Diego columnist Nick Canepa about what player the Chargers should select in this year's draft in this audio link.
