SAN DIEGO -- Here’s a player-by-player look at the San Diego Chargers' 53-man roster:
QUARTERBACK (2)
Philip Rivers: He’s thrown three or more touchdown passes in a game 39 times in his career. The Chargers are 30-9 in those contests.
Kellen Clemens: The University of Oregon product is in Year 2 with the Chargers, so he can manage the game on the rare chance the Rivers gets hurt.
RUNNING BACK (4)
Melvin Gordon: He led the nation at Wisconsin last year with 17 runs of 40-plus yards.
Danny Woodhead: A scratch golfer, Woodhead’s best score on the links is a 66.
Branden Oliver: Returned to the University at Buffalo this offseason to complete his final two classes for a degree in sociology.
Donald Brown: In six seasons, he’s never lost a fumble on 636 career carries for 2,600 yards and 17 touchdowns.
TIGHT END (3)
Ladarius Green: He has a career average of 16.5 yards per catch.
David Johnson: He could see more time on offense this year, with the Chargers expected to use the fullback more.
Kyle Miller: His father, Mark Miller, played quarterback for the Cleveland Browns during the 1978-79 seasons.
WIDE RECEIVER (6)
Keenan Allen: The Cal product should be more of a focal point of the offense early on, with tight end Antonio Gates missing the first four games due to a suspension.
Malcom Floyd: He turns 34 years old on Monday and will retire at the end of this season, his 10th.
Stevie Johnson: He takes over as San Diego’s slot receiver, with Eddie Royal now in Chicago.
Jacoby Jones: His nine kickoff and punt return touchdowns in the regular season are tied for sixth all-time. Jones has 10,000 all-purpose yards in eight NFL seasons.
Dontrelle Inman: He won a Grey Cup title with the CFL’s Toronto Argonauts as a rookie in 2012.
Tyrell Williams: Undrafted rookie free agent out of Western Oregon, kept around because of his size (6-foot-4, 205 pounds) and his speed, (4.44-second, 40-yard time).
OFFENSIVE LINE (9)
King Dunlap: Younger sister Victoria spent time in the WNBA playing for the Washington Mystics and Seattle Storm.
Orlando Franklin: He started 70 of 71 games in his first four seasons in the NFL with the Denver Broncos. Franklin surrendered just one sack in his first season playing left guard for the Broncos last season.
Chris Watt: He makes the full-time switch over to center after splitting time at center and guard last year.
D.J. Fluker: Started 33 of 34 games, including all 16 at right tackle in 2014. Fluker starts the year at right guard until Johnnie Troutman returns from a broken forearm.
Joe Barksdale: He started all 16 games at right tackle for the St. Louis Rams last season. Barksdale plays blues guitar in his spare time.
Trevor Robinson: During his time playing for the Fighting Irish, Robinson became just the fifth freshman to start on Notre Dame's offensive line since 1972.
Chris Hairston: He was selected in the fourth round of 2011 draft by the Buffalo Bills when current Chargers offensive line coach Joe D’Alessandris served in the same role for the Bills. All 15 of Hairston’s career starts came while playing under D’Alessandris.
Johnnie Troutman: He started 25 of 30 games played over the past two seasons, including 16 at right guard and nine at left guard.
Tyreek Burwell: The undrafted rookie free agent played tight end in high school and for two seasons at SUNY-Cortland College.
DEFENSIVE LINE (7)
Corey Liuget: Led the Chargers in sacks for two straight seasons. After signing a high-dollar contract, can Liuget do it for a third straight year?
Kendall Reyes: Looking for a bounce-back season after finishing with just one sack in 2014.
Sean Lissemore: The New Jersey native ranked third in tackles among defensive linemen in each of the past two seasons for San Diego.
Ryan Carrethers: Second-year pro out of Arkansas State is healthy after finishing 2014 on the injured list with a dislocated elbow.
Ricardo Mathews: He will be one of San Diego’s interior rushers on third down. Mathews finished with six tackles for loss and two forced fumbles in 2014.
Mitch Unrein: He joined the Chargers as a free agent after spending his first four years in the NFL with the Denver Broncos.
Darius Philon: A sixth-round selection in this year’s draft by the Chargers, Philon finished with 7.5 sacks and 20.5 tackles for loss in two seasons at Arkansas.
LINEBACKER (10)
Melvin Ingram: The South Carolina product lost 20 pounds during the offseason and looked primed to have a breakout campaign.
Donald Butler: He totaled 83 tackles, including six tackles for loss, in 2014. Butler has played one 16-game season in five years with the Chargers.
Manti Te'o: The third-year pro will handle defensive play-calling duties for the Chargers.
Jeremiah Attaochu: A native of Nigeria, Attaochu grew up playing soccer and didn’t start playing football until high school.
Kyle Emanuel: A fifth-round selection by the Chargers out of North Dakota State, Emanuel will be a rotational player at outside linebacker.
Tourek Williams: The Florida native will miss the first part of the regular season with a broken foot, but hopes to return by Week 8.
Cordarro Law: He totaled 14 sacks, good enough for third in the CFL, for the Calgary Stampeders in 2013.
Denzel Perryman: A second-round selection in this year’s draft, Perryman led the University of Miami in tackles last season with 110.
Kavell Conner: The Clemson product is known for his hard-hitting style and special-teams play. He tied for third last season in special-teams tackles with 16.
Nick Dzubnar: The undrafted rookie free agent out of Cal Poly finished with a school-record 167 tackles last year.
SAFETY (4)
Eric Weddle: He’s the only safety to finish first- or second-team All-Pro the past five seasons.
Jahleel Addae: A play-making safety known for his hard-hitting style, the third-year pro will start at strong safety next to Weddle for the first time in 2015.
Jimmy Wilson: The San Diego native returned in free agency to play for his hometown team, and will see the field as part of the defensive sub package in passing situations.
Darrell Stuckey: He earned Pro Bowl honors for the first time in 2014 as special-teams player.
CORNERBACK (5)
Brandon Flowers: He led the Chargers last year in interceptions (3) and pass breakups (10).
Jason Verrett: The TCU product is ready for a breakout year after playing just six games as a rookie due to a shoulder injury.
Steve Williams: A fifth-round selection by the Chargers in 2013, Williams played in 13 games in 2014.
Patrick Robinson: Signed as a free agent during the offseason from the New Orleans Saints, Robinson will serve as the team’s slot defender.
Craig Mager: A third-round selection out of Texas State at 5-11 and 200 pounds, Mager adds size to the secondary.
SPECIALIST (3)
Josh Lambo: A former goalkeeper for FC Dallas in Major League Soccer, the undrafted rookie out of Texas A&M won the starting kicking job over incumbent Nick Novak.
Mike Windt: He’s served as the Chargers’ full-time snapper since 2011.
Mike Scifres: He’s the franchise leader in career punting average (45.2). The 13-year veteran joins Antonio Gates as the longest-tenured players on the team.
