SAN DIEGO -- The San Diego Chargers announced on Tuesday that offensive lineman Jeromey Clary will remain on the reserve physically unable to perform (PUP) list for the rest of the 2014 season, eliminating any chance of a potential return to the field this year.
Clary, 31, had offseason shoulder and hip surgeries, and was placed on the PUP list at the beginning of training camp. However, Clary needed a second hip surgery, and never progressed enough during the regular season to return to practice.
In the final year of a four-year deal, Clary took a pay cut to remain with the Chargers due in part to his injury, earning $1.6 million in total compensation 2014. Clary will be a free agent next year, and could have some potential suitors if he can prove that he’s healthy.
A sixth-round selection in the 2006 draft, Clary was lauded for his versatility, with an ability to play four of the five positions along the offensive line. In nine seasons with the Chargers, he played in 103 games, starting in 93.
