MINNEAPOLIS -- Minnesota Vikings defensive end Brian Robison said he's not completely sure how serious a pectoral injury he sustained while working out on Thursday afternoon, but said in a text message, "I'll be OK."
The defensive end would not comment on whether he'd had any tests done on the injury yet, deferring those questions to athletic trainer Eric Sugarman. A league source said Thursday night the Vikings didn't see anything serious in an initial reading of Robison's injury, but planned to check with a second doctor to be safe.
Robison is slated to be the Vikings' starting left end, and while he sounded cautiously optimistic on Thursday afternoon, a significant injury would force the team to shuffle its plans along the defensive line. The Vikings signed Caesar Rayford after the veterans combine in March, and drafted a pair of ends this year, taking LSU's Danielle Hunter in the third round and Louisville's B.J. Dubose in the sixth. Scott Crichton, whom the Vikings took in the third round last year, likely would be next in line if Robison's injury is severe enough to keep him off the field into training camp.
At the moment, though, the belief is Robison's injury won't be serious. We'll see how things develop from here.
