FOXBOROUGH, Mass. -- In a move that helps secure more depth at running back, the New England Patriots are signing former Tennessee Titan Bishop Sankey to their practice squad, a source tells ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter.
Sankey was a 2014 second-round draft choice in Tennessee who didn't meet expectations, and in 2016 found himself buried on the depth chart behind trade acquisition DeMarco Murray and second-round draft choice Derrick Henry.
The 5-foot-10, 209-pound Sankey totaled 199 carries for 762 yards (3.8 avg.) and three touchdowns over his first two seasons. He added 32 catches for 272 yards and one touchdown.
The Patriots have LeGarrette Blount as their top power back on the initial 53-man roster, with James White and D.J. Foster the top "passing back" options. Brandon Bolden, whose primary contributions come on special teams, rounds out the depth chart.
Sankey now adds another layer at the position.
