INDIANAPOLIS -- Observations from the Indianapolis Colts' locker room after their 41-17 victory over the Tennessee Titans at Lucas Oil Stadium.
The Colts surprised the Titans when they attempted and were successful on an onside kick in the first quarter. Tight end Jack Doyle delivered a hit on Titans defensive back Marqueston Huff, allowing receiver Griff Whalen to easily slide into position to get the ball. "I don't know if anybody has realized this, but we've been running the six [players] by four [players] lined up for like the first three games, kind of seeing what people do," kicker Pat McAfee said. "We saw that they really weren't covering them. All I have to do is get [the ball] out there, they're going to make the play. We got really lucky. Happy we called it. Most importantly, it's good for our team to steal a possession against anybody." McAfee is now 2-of-9 on onside-kick attempts.
Quarterback Andrew Luck's interception late in the first half was one of the few bad decisions he made Sunday. The Titans were able to capitalize and score a touchdown and cut the Colts' lead to 10 points right before halftime. "Terrible decision by me, especially inside two minutes, backed up and the lead like that," Luck said. "Those are fatal errors." Luck's mistake didn't cost the Colts because they outscored the Titans 21-7 in the second half.
The Colts came out of the game relatively injury free. Running back Ahmad Bradshaw left the game briefly with an ankle tweak but later returned. He left the locker room wearing a walking boot on his left foot as a precaution.
