SAN DIEGO -- A few thoughts on the San Diego Chargers' 33-14 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars in this Week 4 contest at Qualcomm Stadium.
What it means: The Chargers did what they were supposed to do and overwhelmed winless Jacksonville to move to 3-1 on the season. The victory is San Diego's fourth straight over the Jaguars. The Chargers are now 2-0 at Qualcomm Stadium this season.
Stock watch: Slot receiver Eddie Royal created some big plays on offense, with touchdown catches of 43 and 47 yards. He's the first Charger with two touchdown receptions of 43-plus yards in a game since Jeff Graham on Nov. 19, 2000. Royal finished with five receptions and 105 receiving yards, including the two touchdown catches.
Career day for Allen: Second-year pro Keenan Allen had his first big day of the 2014 season, statistically. He finished with a career-high 10 catches for 135 receiving yards as Jacksonville's corners had trouble matching up with the Cal product on the perimeter.
Flowers' first pick: Cornerback Brandon Flowers corralled his first interception as a Charger -- and the first interception of the season for San Diego -- in the third quarter. Flowers dropped an interception against Buffalo this past week. Eric Weddle added to that total with another interception with 3:40 left in the game.
Run game woes continue: Heading into Sunday's contest against Jacksonville, the Chargers averaged a league-worst 2.43 rushing yards per carry. San Diego's issues running the football continued against Jacksonville, as they finished with just 42 yards on 20 carries. Offensive coordinator Frank Reich abandoned the run for the most part in the second half and used swing passes and screens to get his running backs in open space.
Game ball: Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers dissected a poorly executing Jacksonville defense and completed 29 of 39 passes for 377 yards and three touchdowns. It's the most Rivers has thrown in a game since a 392-yard passing performance in a 41-38 win Nov. 24, 2013 at Kansas City.
What's next: The Chargers host their second of back-to-back home games, against the New York Jets at 4:25 p.m. ET Sunday.
