Observed and heard in the locker room after the Philadelphia Eagles' 34-28 victory over the St. Louis Rams:
No Ryans. Inside linebacker DeMeco Ryans was not seen in the postgame locker room. That is significant. The Eagles have been juggling inside linebacker because of injuries, and they’ve been able to do that largely because they’ve had Ryans out there. But Ryans left in the fourth quarter with a groin injury. He’d be a big loss for the Giants game next week.
Special treatment. Chip Kelly devotes a larger portion of his daily practice time to special teams than most NFL coaches. It is paying off. For the second week in a row, the Eagles blocked a punt and returned the ball for a touchdown. James Casey came unblocked up the middle for the block. "[Special teams coach Dave] Fipp says you have to rush like you’re going to be unblocked, and I was," Casey said.
Johnson returns. Right tackle Lane Johnson said, "This was probably the toughest game I have played. I was coming off the street and having just one week of practice." Johnson appeared to play well. Kelly said he didn’t notice any major issues from that side of the line. And LeSean McCoy had 84 rushing yards, his season high.
