NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Observed and heard in the locker room after the Jaguars’ 16-14 loss to Tennessee:
Not enough time: There were 12 seconds left on the clock when Josh Scobee attempted a 55-yard field goal. There seemed to be time for one more play, a short pass to the sideline or a pass in the middle of the field and a quick spike, to make it a shorter attempt. However, the Jags’ target time for a play like that with no timeouts remaining is 17 seconds. That’s why they opted to kick it then. Coach Gus Bradley told the team after the game that it was his fault they were without a timeout because he lost it when his challenge was overturned.
Shorts never saw McCourty: Cecil Shorts’ fumble inside the 10-yard line late in the fourth quarter was a turning point in the game. He said it happened because he never saw Titans cornerback Jason McCourty coming at him from behind. “It’s always the guy you don’t see,” Shorts said. “Caught the slant, trying to score, the guy you don’t see just strips it. I’ve got to do a better job protecting the ball.”
Harbor takes blame: One play before Blake Bortles threw an interception inside the 20-yard line in the third quarter, Bortles overthrew tight end Clay Harbor on a pass that would have been close to a first down. Harbor, however, said the incompletion was on him because he stumbled coming out of his break. “People might look at it and it might look like Blake missed me by a yard or two, but really that was on me,” Harbor said. “That’s completely on me. We’re not even in the situation if I don’t stumble. We don’t have to throw a third-down-and-long play to get the ball intercepted.”
