NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- A few thoughts on the Tennessee Titans' 16-11 loss to the New York Jets at LP Field:
What it means: The Titans lost their eighth consecutive game, blowing a late lead and allowing the Jets a go-ahead touchdown with 3:09 left in the game. They are now one of four teams with just two wins. The defense played well for much of the day, but allowed a fourth-down TD catch by fullback John Conner in the third quarter and a 1-yard TD run to the left corner by Chris Ivory in the fourth.
Stock watch: With Zach Mettenberger (shoulder) out, Jake Locker was in position for three starts to tack onto his résumé as he heads for free agency. But he never made it to the third quarter. Hit by outside linebacker Quinton Coples, Locker had his left shoulder forced into the ground and was knocked from the game. He returned to the sideline in the second half with a wrap on the shoulder to offer some insurance because the Titans were down to Charlie Whitehurst at quarterback.
End of the trend: For four consecutive games, the Titans had allowed points on the first series of the game. The defense held the Jets to three-and-out and the Titans scored first and held the lead for a good share of the game.
Game ball: Titans kicker Ryan Succop hit field goals on all three of his tries, from 40, 33 and 51 yards on a day when points were very difficult to find.
What's next: The Titans head for Jacksonville for an appearance on Thursday night against the Jaguars. The Titans won the first game on Oct. 12 in Nashville 16-14. They are two of the four teams in the league with only two wins, so the game's outcome will have big implications on the NFL draft order.
