OWINGS MILLS, Md. -- Terrell Suggs has recorded countless shots on quarterbacks over the years. This time, the Baltimore Ravens sacks leader delivered one on his own teammate while standing on the sideline.
Suggs blindsided Matt Schaub on Sunday after the struggling backup quarterback wildly overthrew his receivers on consecutive throws.
"Hey Matt, your guys are the guys in purple," Suggs shouted.
This verbal jab is typical of Suggs, who has been one of the most outspoken Ravens for years. It was two years ago when he yelled out to general manager Ozzie Newsome that the team needed to re-sign fullback Vonta Leach after Kyle Juszczyk struggled in a blocking drill as a rookie.
Schaub is in his first season with the Ravens after signing a one-year, $2 million deal this offseason. This is his third team in three years.
He hasn't looked sharp through the first nine practices of training camp, and he's easily thrown the most interceptions of any Ravens quarterback. Coach John Harbaugh came to Schaub's defense when a reporter criticized the play of the 34-year-old quarterback.
"I feel great about Matt Schaub as a backup quarterback," Harbaugh said. "Matt is a heck of a backup quarterback, because he’s a good player, and we feel comfortable that Matt can win for us.”
