NASHVILLE -- Jacksonville Jaguars kicker Josh Scobee doesn’t know exactly what happened on the blocked 55-yard field goal attempt at the end of the Jacksonville Jaguars’ 16-14 loss to Tennessee at LP Field.
But he does know what happened just before it, and he’s not happy.
Scobee was upset that the officials had trouble getting the special K ball into the game and he said that even though they reset the play clock the delay threw off the unit’s rhythm and that played a part in why the attempt failed.
"I was ready. The refs screwed me," Scobee said. "The play clock was running down. They didn’t have the right ball out there and I’m screaming at them to put the right ball in there and run the [play] clock back up. They do it with three seconds left and then they restart it.
"We’re all out of whack. It was amateur."
Resetting the play clock meant the Jaguars didn’t have to rush to snap the ball, but Scobee said the timing still felt off.
"That’s affects the rhythm," he said. "There’s no rhythm whatsoever and that’s what’s crap."
Titans nose tackle Sammie Hill blocked the kick. That was only Scobee’s 14th miss in 37 attempts at a field goal of 50 or more yards. He has made seven game-winning field goals in his career, including a 59-yarder to beat Indianapolis in 2010.
Both Scobee and holder Bryan Anger said they weren’t sure why the attempt was blocked and would need to watch the film to see.
"Scobee hit it well," Anger said. "You can’t really blame it on that. You’ve got to push through some of that stuff. It happens sometimes.
"… Good snap, good hold, good kick. We have to look [and] see what happened on whether it got blocked off the edge or middle. I’m not sure where it came from but we’ll go back and look at that."
