BOCA RATON, Fla. -- Pittsburgh Steelers center Maurkice Pouncey has had no limitations in his offseason workouts nearly seven months removed from a season-ending leg injury, his brother, Dolphins center Mike Pouncey, said from the owners meetings.
The Pounceys have been training together off and on in South Florida. Mike considers his brother fully charged and notes his impressive recent workouts. Pouncey broke his fibula in the preseason.
Coach Mike Tomlin, however, plans to be cautious with his Pro Bowl center. Tomlin hasn't determined Pouncey's level of participation in offseason workouts.
"What he’s capable of doing and what I allow him to do might be two different things," Tomlin said Monday. "I hadn't had those discussions of that juncture. More than anything, I’ve been watching some of those guys go through the rehabilitation process."
The Steelers have good reason to be cautious with Pouncey, who reportedly had two corrective surgeries on the leg. The Steelers consider Pouncey a generational talent at the position and won't rush him into offseason action too quickly.
