Sixth-round pick Travis Feeney will fit into the Pittsburgh Steelers locker room just fine.
Last season at Washington, the linebacker displayed a large, pink ribbon as part of his haircut; first came the shave, then the shape, then the pink dye. Freeney plans to bring it back in October for breast cancer awareness month.
Steelers running back DeAngelo Williams is an ardent advocate of breast cancer awareness; he lost his mother, Sandra Hill, to the disease in 2014. Many players supported his cause by wearing pink T-shirts after a game.
Feeney's aunt and his mother's best friend have died of breast cancer, he said.
"It's just a way to show dedication to it every year," said Feeney of the haircut.
If the head is considered part of the uniform, Feeney might have to shave the ribbon come November. Williams wanted to wear pink accessories all season but the league nixed that plan because there are no exceptions to the uniform policy.
"He's a big advocate," Feeney said of Williams. "He'll be a cool person to talk to."
