PITTSBURGH -- With right tackle Marcus Gilbert likely to miss Sunday's game against the New York Jets with midfoot and ankle sprains, the Pittsburgh Steelers face an expansive injury report.
Coach Mike Tomlin listed the injured players Tuesday, and at least six starting-caliber players are either questionable or could miss practice time. Based on Tomlin's session with the media, the injuries can be sectioned into five parts -- out, highly questionable, questionable, depends on practice participation and probable.
Here's the full breakdown ...
RT Marcus Gilbert -- ankle/foot, highly questionable
OT Ryan Harris -- lower leg, questionable
OG Cody Wallace -- knee, highly questionable
WR Eli Rogers -- turf toe, out
CB Senquez Golson -- foot, out
FB Rosie Nix -- back, questionable
OLB Jarvis Jones -- ankle, depends on practice participation
OLB Anthony Chickillo -- knee, depends on practice participation
OG Ramon Foster -- chest, depends on practice participation
S Robert Golden -- hamstring, depends on practice participation
LB Ryan Shazier -- knee, depends on practice participation
WR Darrius Heyward-Bey -- shoulder, probable but practice availability in question
“As you can see, it’s a laundry list," Tomlin said. "It’s a good thing we responded well to those circumstnaces a week ago. We're going to be challenged even more so. We have to be thoughtful as coaches, we have to put these guys in position to perform. "
The Steelers were beat up last week but responded well, with seldom-used guard B.J. Finney and safety Jordan Dangerfield acquitting themselves well. An inspired performance from the defense helped matters. Pittsburgh will likely need a repeat performance against a Jets offense that Tomlin says is very good when not turning the ball over. New York is converting 48.1 percent of its third downs, but Ryan Fitzpatrick has offset that top-5 stat with 10 interceptions.
