The San Francisco 49ers signed nine undrafted free agents after Saturday’s draft. Here’s a closer look at each player:
QB Dylan Thompson: The former South Carolina signal-caller not only keeps the Gamecocks-49ers pipeline going (Niners GM Trent Baalke worked with Gamecocks coach Steve Spurrier in Washington), Thompson also becomes the third-string quarterback, behind Colin Kaepernick and Blaine Gabbert. Thompson passed for a school-record and SEC-leading 3,564 yards last season with 26 touchdown passes.
WR Dres Anderson: Utah product appeared in just seven games last year after suffering knee injury in October. His 2,077 career receiving yards rank fifth in school history.
WR Issac Blakeney: In 40 games at Duke, he had 18 starts and 98 catches for 1,093 yards and 12 TDs. He ended his career by catching at least one pass in 19 consecutive games, and he was also on the Blue Devils’ 4x100 track team.
WR DiAndre Campbell: Caught 45 passes for 440 yards and three TDs in 52 career games at Washington, with 24 receptions, 231 yards and a touchdown coming last year.
WR Darius Davis: Henderson State product is school and Great American Conference record holder for career receiving yards (3,686) and receiving touchdowns (47). He is 25 years old and at 5-foot-11 and 226 pounds, which is stocky for a receiver.
WR DeAndrew White: Overshadowed at Alabama by Amari Cooper, White had an injury-plagued career for the Crimson Tide. He had 94 receptions for 1,294 yards and 12 TDs in 42 career games at Alabama.
OL Patrick Miller: Played eight games with six starts at right tackle for Auburn last year but missed three games in 2013 while serving a suspension for a failed offseason drug test.
DL Marcus Rush: Four-year letter winner at defensive end for Michigan State who translates into a 3-4 outside linebacker. Had 18.5 sacks with 163 tackles (37.5 for loss), 16 passes defensed and two blocked kicks while starting a school-record 53 games.
S Jermain Whitehead: Suspended four games last year after a verbal altercation with his position coach and still tied for the Auburn team lead with six interceptions, including two in the Tigers’ Outback Bowl loss to Wisconsin. In 48 career games (33 starts) he had 218 tackles, 21 passes defensed, nine INTs, two fumble recoveries and a sack.
