CHICAGO -- A look at San Francisco 49ers players who were “up” and those who were “down” in Sunday’s 26-20 overtime win against the Chicago Bears at Soldier Field:
UP
Blaine Gabbert: The quarterback hit Torrey Smith for a 71-yard touchdown pass to end the game and finished with 196 yards passing and 75 yards rushing, including a 44-yard touchdown run.
Jimmie Ward: His 29-yard pick-six tied the score at 6-6 when the Niners had but five yards of total offense. It was his first career interception and was the first time the Niners scored a touchdown in the first quarter this season.
Shaun Draughn: The vagabond running back who has seemingly found a home in Santa Clara barreled in from one yard out to tie the game at 13-13 in the second quarter, giving the Niners their first rushing touchdown since Oct 11, at the New York Giants.
DOWN
Corey Lemonier: Outweighing Bears running back Matt Forte by nearly 50 pounds, linebacker Lemonier nonetheless was dragged a few yards into the end zone by the Bears running back on his five-yard score in the second quarter. He also dropped a sure interception in overtime.
Phil Dawson: Tough one, I know, because it really was not his fault, but when Dawson’s PAT was blocked after Ward’s pick-six, it was the first time the Niners missed a point-after attempt since Week 9 of the 2003 season.
NaVorro Bowman: Another tough one but he was run over in a sort of Bo Jackson over Brian Bosworth way by Ka'Deem Carey at the goal line for a touchdown late in the fourth quarter.
