Richard Sherman and Will Blackmon were among seven Seattle Seahawks cornerbacks that didn't play in the team's 14-13 preseason loss to Kansas City Friday night, but coach Pete Carroll said that was merely precautionary and that the two should be available next week.
"Richard could have gone tonight; he just didn't have enough practice time. Will Blackmon could have gone tonight," Carroll said. "Both those guys were kinda chomping at the bit to play. So we're going to come back to pretty good health this week. Those guys will all be able to play in this game if they make it through."
Carroll said the same applies to two other cornerbacks, Marcus Burley and Tharold Simon, who also sat out Friday night.
Sherman (hip flexor) and Blackmon (groin) have yet to play in the preseason. Burley injured his calf last week in practice while Simon is working his way back into action following offseason shoulder surgery. He was recently activated from the physically unable to perform list.
Seattle sustained two injuries of note Friday night, both to backups. Defensive tackle D'Anthony Smith cracked a rib and offensive lineman Kona Schwenke left the field on a cart with what Carroll described as a potentially serious knee injury.
"We've got to wait and see, but it looks like he hurt himself tonight," Carroll said of Schwenke. "Got caught up and twisted underneath. It looked like he had something going on there that looked legit, unfortunately."
